Lost Bluff Trail-Is it 2.2 miles or 1.7 miles?

lostbluffOk as many of you know, I frequent the Lost Bluff hiking trail in Grenada, MS quite a bit. I walk it and jog it in hopes that one day I will be able to jog the entire thing. This is no easy task, as there are many steep inclines and declines along the way.

I usually take my iphone with me and use the gps to track my progress and run times using RunKeeper. This a great app, but recently I have been wondering how accurate is the gps.
See the sign at the beginning of the trail says that its approximately 2.2 miles. Each time I complete the trail its on average 1.7 miles, my question was, is it logging my activity accurately while I am jogging?

I decided to walk it today and take my time, taking pictures along the way. Runkeeper allows you to take photos and upload as you go, it geotags the photos and places them on the map exactly where you took them. Continue reading →

Beautiful Day for a Bike Ride/Hike

This weekend we caught a break from the heat, it was in the lower 80’s which is great for this time of year. I had a crazy idea. I had been riding my bike to the emergency spillway at Grenada Lake to run the stairs and then riding back. This was sometimes a 15 mile trip or longer if you rode your bike down the fitness trail along the way.

On this day I decided to ride my bike to the Lost Bluff hiking trail, hike it, then ride back. That would have been about the farthest I have riden and probably most grueling.

Well I did it and it wasnt that bad at all. Guess I am getting used to this sorta thing.

Hiking in 100F temps

Today I went hiking at the lost bluff trail at Grenada Lake and it was very warm out. I beleive when I started it was 99F with a possible heat index of 104F.
More on the trail here http://www.thebackpacker.com/trails/ms/trail_241.php and here http://www.grenadamississippi.com/gtc_hike.htm

For some reason Runkeeper says it was 1.6 miles when the sign says its 2.4 miles. Who knows.

I jogged/walked it several days ago and did better than I did today. I think the heat had gotten to me or maybe it was the Chinese food I had for lunch???

I want to get to were I can jog all of the trail and later work on better times. Right now I can complete it in under 30 minutes no matter what. I my best time so far is 24 minutes. Today it was 26 mins.

Details below. Click on the View Details at RunKeeper link to see more
